The University closed at 6 pm on thursday, when already the winds from the hurricane were picking up here at UM. I had a 5 pm class, but I thought eff that, since I wasn't feeling well with my cold, and it was nasty outside anyway. Nobody prepared for the storm, since everybody KNEW it was going to hit fort lauderdale.
WRONG.
all these were from patrick's camera since mine is out of battery at the moment...

Some of those huge coral gables trees fell down. This family's house was almost hit by this tree.

The Iron Arrow tree... the most important tree at the University... this humongous tree didn't fall during hurricane andrew

All the palm trees were stripped of their palms. I have a weird look.
It hit the miami-dade/broward border and crawled south-westward. Basically, there was alot of tree damage and debree. It's amazing what a minimal hurricane can do.
I haven't been home to kendall or homestead yet, but I've heard it was a mess. Both of my houses don't have electricity as I type this, nor does my grandma. My aunt took my cousins to disney to avoid the loss of power bullshit. People can't get gas anywhere. It sucks.
Meanwhile, the UM dorms lost power for about 5 minutes around 12:30 am friday morning, but that was about it. There were parties in the lobby, we were watching movies, and it was a great time to meet the neighbors. The rooms whose windows were facing the rain/wind/monster got flooded, but mine was facing the other way, thankfully. UM opened again today, and classes most likely resume monday. We're going out tonight. woot!
'Tis all. Hope all of you are okay and not dying of heat.

I'm so upset that the huge Iron Arrow tree was blown over.
